Ollie a hit with Geography Teachers
The Geography Teachers Association of Victoria’s 40th Annual Geography Conference provided an interesting program exploring the theme of Global Places, Global Faces. The Conference was held from 13th - 15th August 2006 with workshops held on days 1 and 2 and field trips on day 3.
Jane Stewart demonstrated Ollie’s Island to a room of teachers and showed them how the program could be used in the subject of geography. With the new VELS curriculum set for roll out in schools across Victoria, Jane also demonstrated how the program’s material is based on a view of learning that acknowledges a student’s active role in the learning process.
Teachers were shown how the program challenged students with a range of p roblem solving activities at varying levels of complexity, allowing for individual achievement.
