Ollie launched at the Royal Melbourne Show
After years of development the Ollie’s Island Program was successfully launched at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds on the 22nd September 2006. The Victorian Minister for Agriculture, The Honourable Robert Cameron, officially launched the program and spoke of the importance of bridging the country city divide through programs such as Ollie’s Island.
Ian Porter, the Executive Director of the Sustainability Strategy for the Victorian Department of Sustainability & Environment also spoke at the launch and commended the Ollie’s Island team for producing such an engaging and stimulating edu-tainment resource based on ideas of sustainability.
Jane Stewart then showed the crowd of government officials, industry representatives, educators and some students through the Ollie’s Island Program highlighting different sections and describing the learning objectives of different activities.
Guests were then treated to a delicious afternoon tea whilst a further demonstration of the Ollie’s Island program was given by a couple of students. Set at the new showground development, the event was enhanced by guests later visiting an array of agricultural displays and show exhibits.
