International Fibre Centre

International Fibre CentreThe International Fibre Centre (IFC) was officially opened on 31 March 1999 to support education, training and technology transfer programs for the fibres and textiles industries. It is the only organisation in Australia that provides funding for skills development specifically for the textile industry with a particular focus on work-place delivery.

Joe Merola receiving the supporter award for the International Fibre CentreThe IFC is funded by the Victorian Government – a reflection of the strategic importance of the fibre and textile industry to the Victorian economy. The Centre works closely with industry, research organisations, tertiary education institutions and training providers to extend the coverage and impact of its program delivery.

Through its programs, IFC promotes innovation and the development and use of best practice technologies to improve the performance and international competitiveness of Australian textile manufacturers. This involves seminars and conferences, often with international experts, to present the world’s latest trends and developments.

The IFC’s activities are centred around the following funding programs:

  • The Training and Education Projects (TEP) Program supports the development of industry training and education projects, creates training materials and delivers training courses.
  • The Specialised Training Partnership (STP) Program supports the development and delivery of specialist training from domestic or international sources for the Victorian, National or overseas fibre and textile markets. This program involves co-funding from industry, research or education organisations.
  • The Professional Development Program (PDP) supports the training of individuals employed in the fibre and textile industry to improve their skills through participation in accredited textile related education and training courses.
  • The Environmental Management Pilot Project (EMPP) is a recent initiative that aims to increase awareness of environmental and waste management issues, and support implementation of best practice systems through industry education and training.
