Acid RainSome of the chemicals that are released into the air when we burn fossil fuels react with water in the atmosphere to create weak acids. These acids then fall back to Earth as rain. This acid rain can kill trees and other plants. If it gets into lakes and rivers it can kill the water life and make the water unsuitable for drinking. This is a major problem in Europe and North America, but not so much in Australia.
