Air – Facts and Figures

Scientists aren’t sure what all the effects of global warming might be. But they are worried that it could:

  • Increase the level of the oceans, leaving some people and animals homeless.
  • Change where we can plant crops
  • Change the quality of our air
  • Change the quality of our water
  • Decrease the number of plant and animal species and change where they live.
  • Increase the number of droughts and floods that occur on earth
  • Increase the number of wild storms

Australia produces over 450 million tons of carbon dioxide every year – that’s around 23 tonnes per person!

Australian Greenhouse Office, 1999.
