What Is Composting?

Composting is the process where plant material rots to form compost that looks like soil. Composting occurs in nature when fallen leaves, dead plants and even old logs naturally break down and the nutrients are returned to the soil. By placing garden waste and fruit and vegetable scraps into a compost bin you can speed up this process, and use the nutritious compost on your garden.

These are 3 great reasons to compost:

  • To reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
  • To recycle the nutrients in food and garden waste.
  • To improve the soil in your garden.
