Water and Health

In Australian cities and towns we are lucky to all have access to safe, clean drinking water. But in poorer countries, this is often not the case. Sewage, petrol, and chemicals from agriculture and industry can all be extremely dangerous if they get into the drinking water supply.

  • In Africa and Asia, up to three-quarters of the population do not have clean water to drink.
  • About 5 million people die every year from diseases carried in dirty water.
  • About 80% of all illnesses worldwide are caused by unclean drinking water.

Keeping our waterways clean is very important - not just for the sake of our environment, but also for our health.
