Recycling Electronics
The National Recycling Coalition's Electronics Recycling Initiative
promotes the recovery, reuse and recycling of old electronic equipment,
and encourages the design, manufacture and purchase of environmentally
responsible electronic equipment.
Old electronic equipment, known as “e-waste”, includes televisions,
computers, wireless phones, copiers, fax machines, telephones, VCRs,
and countless other appliances that can be an environmental hazard if
not disposed of properly.
The Electronics Recycling Initiative sponsors electronics recycling
events around the nation, and conducts educational sessions and workshops.
The Initiative also includes a website which provides:
- information for businesses and consumers on how to properly manage
e-waste;
- a database of e-waste recyclers;
- policy information at the state,
federal, and international levels;
- specifications for designing electronics
that are safer for the environment;
- and lots more useful information
about electronics recycling.
As part of our commitment to electronics recycling, the NRC also supports
the U.S. EPA’s Plug-In To eCycling Program. This program aims to
increase safe electronics recycling by linking together electronics manufacturers
and retailers to provide more support for eCycling. You can visit the
Plug-In to eCycling website at www.plugintorecycling.org.
