Acid RainSome of the chemicals that are released into the air when we burn fossil fuels react with water in the atmosphere to create weak acids. These acids then fall back to Earth as rain, fog, snow or as tiny acidic particles. Many scientists believe that this acid rain is responsible for damaging soil, killing trees and other plants, and killing fish and other water life. Acid rain can also damage buildings and other structures, and can be harmful to human health.
