What is Glass?

Glass making is a very old craft. People were making glass bottles and jars 70, 000 years ago. Glassmakers used a process of heating and blowing molten glass. They skillfully shaped each glass container by hand. Most of the glass containers made today are made in large factories where computers keep control of the process.

Things made of glass

People have used glass containers for a very long time and still use it, for several good reasons. Glass protects the products inside - preserving freshness and taste. It is transparent, so unless it has been tinted a very dark color, you can see what's inside. Glass bottles and jars can keep products cool in the refrigerator, be heated in the microwave, and then go right back into the refrigerator.
