A new interactive environmental education and industry promotional program
has just been released across the USA. It is called Ollie Saves the
Planet and it uses the medium of CD ROM and Website to show children,
teachers, parents and community groups the importance of sustainable
waste management within their communities.
Its primary objective it to bring together the issues of waste, water,
energy, air and biodiversity under the organising principle of sustainability
so that the user can understand how these issues are interconnected and
how ones daily actions effect a range of issues.
The Office of the Federal Environmental Executive, the Solid Waste Association
of North America (SWANA) the National Recycling Coalition (NRC), the
Water Education Foundation, CHEP, V-COM and the US Postal Service are
all proud sponsors of this new program.
The Ollie Saves the Planet Program has many hours of activities, information
and challenges delivered through an animated multimedia format. It has
been written using Best Practice Environmental Education Resource Guidelines
so that it can be used in the classroom or home environment. It is best
suited to children between the ages of 5 – 13 years although adults
have been found reading the content and playing some of the games too.
We ask businesses and concerned persons to purchase copies of the CD
ROM and distribute them into local schools, community groups and libraries
in their area of influence. This is a great way to show commitment to
sustainable practices and a great way to spread the word. The producers
