PRESS RELEASE – WARWICK UNIVERSITY USES OLLIE TO TRAIN TEACHERS

17th July 2000

The Centre for Education and Industry (CEI) at the University of Warwick is pleased to support the dissemination of the Ollie Recycles CD ROM Program.

CEI has a network of people and organisations across England and Wales who have an interest in developing partnerships between Industry and Education. Through their contacts at a local level, these organisations are well placed to disseminate information out to primary schools.

Steve Stillwell from the Centre for Education and Industry firmly believes that the most effective way of developing these partnerships and enhancing these educational resource materials is through in-service training opportunities for teachers.

He says "it gives teachers an opportunity to focus on the resource and reflect how best to use it with their classrooms".

Steve Stillwell has carried out training sessions at the following local education business partnerships.  These training sessions are based the Ollie Recycles Program and incorporate information on sustainable waste management and how it fits into the curriculum.

  • Kingston Education Business Partnership – 2nd March 2000      (8 teachers)
  • Bromley Education Business Partnership – 17th March 2000      (25 teachers)
  • Islington Education Business Partnership – 24th May 2000        (15 teachers)
  • Southwark Education Business Alliance  - 16th June 2000         (7 teachers)
  • Hackney Education Business Partnership  - Proposed date Autumn 2000

For more training dates contact Steve Stillwell at the Centre for Education and Industry.
