Ecosystem Diversity

Ecosystem diversity is the variety of different types of environments on earth. An ecosystem includes every living species in an area, their homes, the water, the soil, and even the weather.

Different ecosystems include forests, jungles, streams, coral reefs, rock-pools by the beach and deserts. In Australia there are hundreds of different ecosystems.

It is important to preserve different ecosystems, as each ecosystem supports a whole range of different organisms. Organisms in different ecosystems clean the water, filter the air, modify the temperature, clean natural waste, keep the soil healthy, and balance the number of each species. They also provide people with medicines, fibres, timber, and other materials.
