Forests and BiodiversityTrees play an extremely important role in an ecosystem. They provide food and homes for millions of species of animals, birds and insects. Forests are also very important to another species – humans. Forest plants provide drugs for medicines, provide food and materials for local communities, and help produce clean water and air. They are home to between 50% and 90% of all of our planet’s animal and plant species. These species help regulate the earth’s atmosphere and temperature and are vital to the health of our planet.
