Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria – Supporters Section

The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria Limited (RAS) makes a unique contribution to Victoria. Each year it connects the country and the city through the Royal Melbourne Show, to showcase the best in agriculture and rural lifestyle through competition, education, food, and much more.

The Royal Melbourne Show is conducted over 11 days each September and is the biggest public-paying event held in Victoria each year, attracting about half a million people annually.

The RAS is involved in all facets of rural life in the State and its activities, competitions, events and educational programs touch the lives of people of all ages. The RAS conducts a wide and diverse range of programs, which it has done throughout its 155 year history and includes;

• The Royal Melbourne Horse Show
• The RAS Share Dairy Farmer of the Year Competition
• The RAS Prime Lamb Carcase Competition
• The RAS Beef Carcase Competition
• The RAS Fleece Competition
• The Royal Melbourne Wine Show
• The Australian International Beer Awards
• The Royal Melbourne Dairy Produce Awards
• The Agricultural Societies of Victoria Rural Ambassador Award
• The Weekly Times & RAS Farm Business Awards, including:
• Horticulture Producer of the Year
• Crop Producer of the Year
• Young Farmer of the Year
• Dairy Producer of the Year
• Beef Producer of the Year
• Sheep Producer of the Year
• Alternative Farming Producer of the Year
• Farm Business of the Year
• RASFarm Education program for primary schools
• School Recycling and Gardening program for primary schools, including the monthly ‘Doing the Right Thing’ Award
• The educational Young Explorers’ Trail on School’s Day at the Royal Melbourne Show
• Symposia each year covering a range of topics relevant to rural and regional communities and also to agribusiness

In addition to the above activities, the RAS provides administrative support to numerous rural and agribusiness organisations on an on-going basis
