Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation
The
Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC) was formed
in 1990 to work in partnership with Australian rural industries to
manage and fund their research and development needs.
Their focus is on new rural industries, selected established rural industries and national rural issues.
There are 22 different research areas under the RIRDC umbrella:
- New animal & plant industries
- Agroforestry & farm forestry
- Environment & farm management
- Farm health & safety
- Organic systems
- Wildflowers & native plants
- Tea tree oil
- Rare natural (animal) fibres
- Horses
- Honeybee
The overarching goal of the group is to facilitate a more profitable, dynamic and sustainable rural sector for the benefit of all Australians. And in 2004-2005, RIRDC funded 435 projects in 22 diverse areas, totalling around $23 million to make this a reality.
