Prevention Activities
The Australian aluminium industry has long been at the forefront of world
environmental excellence in all aspects of its operations - from rehabilitation
of its bauxite mines to emission control at the smelters.
Protection and conservation of the environment are important considerations
for Alcoa. In Australia at all our operating sites, from mining to final
manufacture, we:
- Maintain an active environmental protection program
- Undertake surveys of the existing flora, fauna and forest health before
bauxite mining begins.
- Identify environmentally sensitive areas and ensure that appropriate
steps will be taken to minimise the impact of mining.
