The National Packaging Covenant, continued

Case Study 1: REDUCE

One example of the National Packaging Covenant in action is a change in the packaging of fresh chickens in supermarkets. Rather than placing the chickens on a plastic tray with a soaker pad and then wrapping in plastic, the chickens are now packaged in a shrink bag. This takes away the need for a plastic tray, saving about 3 million trays from going to landfill every year!

Case Study 2: RECYCLE

Signing the National Packaging Covenant has also encouraged one Australian bakery to make greater use of packaging that can be recycled.

Previously, the bakery's pies were packaged in flexible flow-wrap packaging that was not recyclable. The company is now changing this packaging to folding cartons that can be recycled.
