Energy Activities, continuedCities for Climate ProtectionCities for Climate ProtectionTM (CCPTM) Australia is an innovative program which helps local governments and their communities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. CCPTM is a campaign of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), with over 370 (at June 2002) local governments from around the world participating. On joining the CCPTM program, councils commit to achieving five milestones by passing a council resolution. ICLEI supports councils to achieve these milestones and works with them to develop a strategic agenda to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. In Australia, the Cities for Climate ProtectionTM program is delivered by ICLEI in collaboration with the Australian Greenhouse Office. By June 2000, 92 councils covering over 40% of Australia's population had already joined the campaign.
