Introduction
Visy
Industries started in Melbourne in 1948 as a small packaging company supplying
boxes - mainly to the fruit and vegetable growers of Victoria.
For the first 30 years of the company, the focus was on making and supplying
cardboard packaging but in the late 1970's, our owner, Richard Pratt,
decided to build a paper mill so we could make our own paper for our packaging
products.

Richard Pratt and Visy decided to build a recycled paper
mill and take used paper as the feedstock for making new paper. On the
back of this first mill, a lot of hard work and some success, we have
expanded our business and now operate nearly 100 recycling and packaging
factories in Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Asia.

Our approach has all been based on producing sustainable
packaging. We have the recycling services to collect or process used materials,
to sort and clean the recyclables, and the manufacturing facilities to
make the used materials into new products. This has required a lot of
research and development, a lot of investment in technology and people,
and a lot of hard work. We continue with this approach today.
