Why Recycle Electronics?
Electronics are known as one of the fastest growing and most toxic types of waste today. As
technology advances, more and more electronic goods are being made, bought, used and thrown
away.
Electronics often contain small amounts of poisonous metals like cadmium,
lead, mercury,
and nickel. These are known as
heavy metals. If electronics
are just thrown away, they end up in landfill
where these heavy metals can contaminate the soil and water. Some electronics
also contain materials which, when burnt, can release very toxic fumes.
The safest way to dispose of electronics is to take them to a collection point or transfer station,
where they can be recycled. This also saves lots of precious and expensive materials from going
to waste.
