Introduction
For over 40 years, SWANA - the Solid Waste Association of North America
- has been the leading professional association in the solid waste field.
Our mission is to advance the practice of environmentally and economically
sound municipal solid waste management.
Our work can be summed up in three words:
- Educate
- Innovate
- Communicate
We serve over 7,000 members throughout North America, by providing conferences
and training courses, not to mention administering a certification program
and offering training publications for all aspects of solid waste management.
Our members include individuals throughout North America who are involved
in the many aspects of municipal solid waste management. This includes
facilities such as transfer stations, landfill sites and waste to energy
plants, as well as those involved in collection systems, composting,
recycling, landfill gas utilization, and marketing and public education.
At the core of SWANA are eight technical divisions, each concentrating
on furthering a specific area of waste management, for the benefit of
both our members and the environment.
