Treating Water Responsibly: Clean Drains at Kimberly-Clark

Kimberly-Clark Australia takes precautions to stop spills and rubbish
leaving their production sites via stormwater drains. Plastic wrapping,
paper, liquids and other rubbish materials can easily wash off site and
end up in recreation areas, parklands or waterways.
As this could be harmful to wildlife, drains leaving KCA sites have signs
to remind employees and visitors that rubbish on the road and in gutters
can wash off site into local waterways. The company encourages employees
to ensure gutters, roads and paved areas are kept clean.
Treating Water Responsibly: Waste Water at Kimberly-Clark
Treated waste water from Kimberly-Clark Australia's mills is treated
by secondary treatment before discharge. This process includes a series
of large ponds with vigorous forced aeration, which digests any organic
residues from the papermaking process.
This treated waste water from the mills meets stringent overseas and
Australian standards. It is analysed daily to confirm compliance and is
also tested at external laboratories which confirm the water is non-toxic
to fish and the small animals they feed on.
Responsible waste water treatment is part of Kimberly-Clark's worldwide
environmental program.
