Kimberly-Clark - Using Plantation Timber
Kimberly-Clark Australia's paper products such as Kleenex® facial
tissue, Kimsoft® hand towel and Huggies® nappies use fully renewable
sources of fibre.
In
1991, Kimberly-Clark implemented the planting of eight million eucalypt
trees in the Mount Gambier region of South Australia to provide plantation
eucalypt wood supplies near their mill.
This supply reached full production in 2001 and will fully replace the
interim use of residues from sawlog operations (these residues are reject
material that cannot be used for sawn timber).
These wood fibre source are a fully sustainable resource, just like growing
wheat only on a different time scale.
Using renewable virgin fibres gives a high level of manufacturing control
and purity which is very important with products used on the body for
personal hygiene.
