Greening our Transport Fleet - continued
We
are also keenly monitoring vehicle industry developments around the world,
such as fuel cell technology and electric vehicles,
and are especially interested in low sulphur diesel fuels and next-generation
low emission engines which would result in lower volumes of sulphur,
carbon dioxide and particulates entering the environment.

Trains can be a breathtaking way to see the country and they can also
be the perfect solution for moving mail across the sparsely inhabited
Nullarbor Plain from Adelaide to Perth. Our decision to transport mail
by rail to Western Australia instead of by road saves:
- 2.5 million litres
of diesel each year
- Resulting in a reduction of 7,361 tonnes of carbon
dioxide
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2.5% each year
Even the carefully prepared containerisation has helped maximise space
and add to transportation efficiencies.
We are continuing to look at further rail options wherever practical
and are hopeful of further savings in the next few years.
