Innovations
At Australia Post, we are always investigating new technologies
and coming up with ways to improve our environmental performance. We
are currently
investigating a number of initiatives, including:
- An initiative called “e-forms”,
which uses electronic forms to replace paper-based processes. This
means that we can cut down dramatically
on the amount of paper used in our offices.
- A centrally controlled computer
system that can turn off unused computers at night, saving energy.
- A
new system to capture the energy generated by braking in our trucks,
and releasing that energy to reduce fuel usage during acceleration.
This could result in reducing our current fuel consumption by up to
20%.
- A ‘green office’ program to reduce our energy usage
and the amount of waste material we generate. The program will review
our
purchasing practices, our operational practices, the reasons why waste
is generated and our approach to the disposal and recycling of waste.
