Native Animal Homes

Logs have life inside logoOur new campaign to educate firewood users teaches people that when they burn hollow logs in their fireplaces at home they may actually be burning the homes of native birds and animals - including some threatened species.

What people often don't know is that collecting hollow logs and trees for firewood can destroy the homes and shelters of animals, birds and other creatures. .Visitors to our website can learn more about the impact of firewood collection on biodiversity, by listening to the words of the 'House on Fire' song.

This lively tune tells the story of Clancy the Cockatoo who, having found his tree chopped down for firewood, gathers a throng of creatures to educate the nearby townsfolk about sustainable firewood collection. You can download the song and lyrics at www.ea.gov.au/education/activities/firewood.
