Renovating Australian Waterways, continued
Esk - Corra Linn Landcare Project - Tasmania
The Esk - Corra Linn Landcare Group project encompasses a stretch of
the North Esk river which supports a diverse range of primary production
and recreational activities, and is an important factor in the flood mitigation
strategy for the City of Launceston.
The project aims to improve stream flow by removing willows that have
fallen into the river. These willows will be chipped and composted along
with other organic matter, and then used as mulch in local vineyards.

Leschenault Community Nursery - Western Australia
Located at Bunbury, the Leschenault Community Nursery is an innovative
community-managed nursery, which encourages local plantings and supports
local Landcare groups. The Community Nursery has strong links to the renovation
of local waterways by providing plants for revegetation projects.
The 2000-2001 nursery season resulted in the production of 128,000 seedlings
for revegetation projects in the Leschenault and Geographe Bay Catchments.
Plants have been supplied to farmers, local governments and schools for
revegetation projects.
The Leschenault Community Nursery has produced the seedlings with the
enthusiastic involvement of over 70 volunteers. The Nursery also undertakes
it's own seed collecting and runs training programs in seed picking for
volunteers.
