Greenhouse Challenge

PACIA has taken a lead role on greenhouse gas issues for the plastics and chemical industries. During 1999 we worked with the Australian Greenhouse Office and twelve of our member companies on a very successful Greenhouse Challenge project, called "Managing Energy for Profits".

Using funding from the Commonwealth, we worked to identify energy savings on 23 manufacturing sites. An energy efficiency specialist identified opportunities to reduce energy consumption and then participating companies joined the Greenhouse Challenge by signing voluntary Cooperative Agreements with the government. Companies committed to around 85% of the identified opportunities, thus reducing greenhouse emissions and energy use and providing wins for companies, the industry, government and the environment.
