Sustainability
Telstra is taking on the challenge of sustainability in two ways:
- Telstra produces products and services that can benefit the environment
and contribute to sustainability. Telecommunications offers many
opportunities to contribute to a more sustainable world. Telecommunications
can, for instance, minimise reliance on transport by providing 'real-time'
visual and audio communications, help communities interact better and
improve the dissemination of new ideas locally and globally.
In addition, by replacing paper-based and resource-intensive ways
of transferring information, telecommunications provide opportunities
for other industries to improve their environmental performance. In
this way, Telstra is continually exploring new products and services
that will result in better environmental and social outcomes.
- Telstra has a significant number of environmental initiatives that
embrace the concepts of sustainability. The way in which Telstra
undertakes its business activities provides examples of positive change
to achieving sustainable development. As outlined in Telstra's Environment
Policy, Telstra has committed to a high level of environmental performance.
