Recycle Activities, continuedPlastic RecyclingVisy Plastics has invested more than $20 million in infrastructure in
Sydney and Melbourne and is now recycling about 20,000 tonnes of plastic
a year. We were recently granted United States Food and Drug Administration
approval for full food contact for recycled PET resins. This means that
used soft drink bottles can be collected, reprocessed and made back into
new drink bottles.
Glass RecyclingVisy Glass processes more than 500,000 tonnes of glass every year. Our Glass division at Visy Recycling has now researched, developed and implemented cutting-edge technology that has the potential to save about 30,000 tonnes of glass each year from going to landfill. The investment in state-of-the-art opto-electronic sorting machinery
that automatically sorts glass into component colours and removes contaminants
is making a significant impact on glass recycling in Australia.
