Household Hazardous Waste, continued
Some people pour chemicals and paints into their backyard drains. These chemicals join the
stormwater system and are flushed into our waterways, killing the fish in our streams and
polluting our beaches. Chemicals should never be poured down any drains.
Many councils have a free chemical collection day, when you can drop off all your household
hazardous waste in one go. Contact your local council to find out about safe disposal of
hazardous waste in your area.
