Amcor - Creating Recycled Products
Recycling
of paper and cardboard does not make economic sense if there is no "end
use" market for recycled products.
As the pioneer of domestic kerbside recycling services more than 60 years
ago, Amcor has a real incentive to ensure that there are markets for recycled
product. The company collects, sorts and recycles all grades of wastepaper,
including office papers. Amcor recovers around 800,000 tonnes of wastepaper
every year and recycles some of this wastepaper into Australian Recycled
Cartonboard (ARC).
Recycled
cartonboard is produced and used to make cartons for packaging food and
household items such as biscuits, breakfast cereals, frozen food, toothpaste,
tissues, cosmetics, washing powder and pet food.
The ARC logo was designed by schoolchildren. It tells consumers that
the manufacturer of the product is using packaging that is recycled, recyclable
and made in Australia.
Amcor is encouraging Australian households to buy packaging containing
the special ARC logo, therefore supporting an end use market for recycled
product.
