The National Packaging Covenant
The National Packaging Covenant is an agreement between governments and
industry to make packaging safe for our environment, reduce the amount
of packaging going to landfill, and find ways to use the waste packaging
material that is collected every week from our homes.
To make sure that everyone involved in the packaging supply chain takes
responsibility for their part of the packaging cycle, the businesses signing
the agreement include:
- Companies that supply the raw materials for packaging;
- Companies that make the packaging from these raw materials;
- Companies that use this packaging in their products; and
- Companies that sell these products and packaging.
A part of the National Packaging Covenant is a $34.9 million fund for
people to research how to make our kerbside recycling systems better.
This fund also helps businesses find markets for recycled materials.
