Recycling isn’t Always Possible

Not all things can be recycled. Sometimes the following reasons make recycling difficult or impossible:

  • More resources are used to recycle than are saved.
  • There is no factory to recycle the material.
  • There is not enough of the material to supply a factory, so a factory cannot operate.
  • The product is made from a number of materials, which can’t be separated.
  • The material can’t be recycled.
  • Too much energy is needed to collect the material, eg in remote country areas.

Sometimes, if a material cannot be recycled in your area, you could try to buy an alternative product made from materials that can be recycled. The best thing to do if you can’t recycle in your community is to reduce the amount of waste you create in the first place, and try to reuse as much as possible.
