Introduction - continued
Taking this one step further, Australia Post has made a commitment to
integrating the principles of ecological sustainability into our policies,
practices and day-to-day decision-making. This means carefully evaluating
the impacts of our activities on the environment and the community, and
considering those impacts in everything we do.

Good Reputation Index
Australia Post's reputation as a good corporate citizen has been recognised
by The Age / Sydney Morning Herald's Good Reputation Index.
The Index
puts Australia's top 100 companies under microscope and examines them
against six aspects of corporate reputation, including social impact
and environmental performance. In 2001, Australia Post was ranked #1.
In 2002 we were pipped to the post and came #2, just behind Westpac.
Banksia Award
Australia Post was recognised for its environmental leadership by being
awarded the 1998 Banksia Award in the Government Category.
The implementation of our Environmental Management System, our commitment
to the Greenhouse Challenge program, the development of a significant
wetland area and other environmental initiatives earned us this award.
Australia Post was selected by the judges for "demonstrating leadership,
initiative and creativity in addressing environmental challenges in a
manner that is over and above what would be expected in the course of
doing its job."
The Banksia Awards, Australia's most prestigious environmental awards,
recognise and honour companies or individuals whose environmental performance
makes a significant difference to the Australian and world environment.
