Basaltica WaterWise Garden
The Basaltica WaterWise Garden was created by City West Water in cooperation
with Transport Company CRT and the Habitat Trust. It demonstrates how
an attractive garden can be established and maintained relying on only
minimal water resources.
Through the use of indigenous plants an attractive, healthy garden has
been established that requires minimal additional watering other than
natural rainfall. During its first six months the garden used 80% less
water than an adjacent well-established European-style garden. Mostly,
the garden thrives on natural rainfall, and is a good example of how people
can reduce water consumption dramatically in their own gardens.
The Basaltica WaterWise garden is located at 21-43 Barnes Road, Altona
North (Melway Map 54 J4) Gate 3 of the CRT site. Visits can be arranged
by calling (03) 9290 1705.
