Community Environment Awards
Our City West Water Community Environment Awards pay tribute to the people
and organisations in our community who are protecting and improving our
local environment. The awards recognise the contribution that nominees
are making towards the creation of a sustainable local community, and
promote environmental initiatives and achievements in our region.
Virtually anyone can nominate for an award across nine broad categories,
which cover community, local government, service providers, industry,
commercial businesses, education and the media.

2002 Awards
The theme of our 2002 Awards is 'Pathways to Sustainability'. This theme
highlights the vision shared by local and global communities to create
a sustainable world, by:
- Caring for our environment to prevent its depletion and degradation;
- Contributing to society by developing and enriching our people and
community; and
- Maintaining our livelihoods, supporting local businesses and developing
our economy.
Our Awards criteria have a primary focus on water and environment-related
issues, but they have been recently broadened to include social considerations
such as community consultation. They also recognise innovation and excellence
in areas such as trade waste management, tree planting, foreshore protection,
and environmentally sound development and planning.

The sustainability theme in 2002 paves the way for a change to the name
of the Awards in 2004. Our Awards will then become known as the City West
Water Community Sustainability Awards. This transition marks our own journey
towards sustainability - managing precious water resources for our community
now as well as for future generations.
