Waste Activities

Trade waste is liquid waste created by industry and commercial businesses, which is discharged to the sewerage system. Our Service Sustainability Department manages trade waste from a large number of industrial and commercial customers.

All these customers must have Trade Waste Agreements or Consents, which set out the requirements they must meet to safely discharge their trade waste to sewer. Most need to treat their effluent before discharge, in order to meet our standards. These requirements ensure that we protect:

• The health and safety of our employees;
  
• Our sewers and other sewerage system assets;
  
• Our treatment processes;
  
• The environment; and
  
• The ability to reuse treated effluent and sludge.

Our staff assist customers with cleaner production, waste minimisation, water conservation and emergency management in order to effectively manage the potential risks created by trade waste in the sewerage system.
