2. Act Locally
The
best way to make a difference to the planet is to make changes in your
own local area. Some things you can do around your neighbourhood include:
- Adopt a local park, beach, road or walking track, and have regular
clean-up days.
- Plant trees in parks, on local farms, on your school grounds and in
your own backyard.
- Volunteer at a local animal shelter.
- Set up recycling, composting and gardening programs at school and
home.
- Build bird and possum houses and wildlife friendly areas in your backyard
or school grounds, to increase local biodiversity.
- Have a working bee to fix up a local walking track or beach path.
- Organise a letter writing campaign about a particular local issue.
- Conduct energy and water audits at school and at home to improve your
efficiency and reduce resource use.
