Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Greenhouse gases are thought to be making our planet warmer by damaging
our protective atmosphere. A warmer planet could be dangerous for the
environment.
Most greenhouse gases are generated by burning fossil fuels to produce
energy in the following ways:
- Large generators burn coal, oil or gas to produce electricity, which
is used in homes, businesses and industry.
- People in their homes burn gas for heating, cooling or cooking.
- Cars and other vehicles are powered by burning fuels made from oil
or gas.
At Origin Energy, we are reducing greenhouse gases in four areas:
- Gas and oil exploration and production,
- Electricity generation,
- Gas distribution; and
- Customer use.
We have developed plans in these areas, which will save more than one
million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year.
