'Ollie Recycles' United Kingdom 2001
Funding and Program upgrade
Biffa Waste Services approved a second year of funding, to further
develop the 'Ollie Recycles' CD and web site. The 2001 version of
the program includes:
- New UK Curriculum standards
- Upgrade to the web page authoring tool offered to schools
- Development of the Ollie Recycles web site
- Launch of a national children's web site building competition
"The 3Rs in My School".
Distribution and launch
In July 2001, 23,500 copies of the CD were distributed free of
charge to every primary school in the UK and the web site and competition
were launched.
The Groundwork team is once again playing a key role, through its
46 offices and dedicated representatives throughout the UK. 'Ollie
Recycles' is a fantastic multimedia tool for Groundwork to use in
schools to develop themes around waste, or help with school waste-oriented
projects.
Competition
The web building competition is bringing greater exposure for the
Program and will link UK children and those in Australia and other
parts of the world.
Education standard and program influence
The Ollie Program is now an environmental education standard in
the UK.
Together, Groundwork and Ollie Recycles, have the potential to
reach hundreds of UK schools with the message of the Ollie Program,
and make a difference to the amount of waste being sent to landfill
sites across the country.
